Music

Dear Readers,

Since music plays almost as big a role in my life as pasta and disappointing men, I’ve included a playlist of some of the songs that are mentioned in I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti. My soundtrack kicks off with the Bee Gees “Staying Alive,” to set the scene of my Bay Ridge, 1970s childhood, then it moves on to songs that were playing somewhere in the background of many of the meals and dates discussed in the book. There’s Aztec Camera, which was on my turntable when I met Kit, and Wings whose virtues I debated with Ethan Binder, there are the Strokes, which Mitch and I couldn’t get enough of in our early days, and Led Zeppelin’s “Custard Pie,” which I never did manage to download for Lachlan. I end the list with Jarvis Cocker’s “Don’t Let Him Waste Your Time,” which offers the kind of advice I never listen to but find amusing to consider nonetheless. Of Montreal is never mentioned in the book but they are my current obsession and this song, about screwy male behavior from the male point-of-view, is a great one.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to add Liz Phair’s “Big Tall Man,” the song about the “complicated communicator” that too is certainly worth hearing and can be found on itunes.

Happy listening!

Giulia
